Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille in a Shootout to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening trophy on fourteen different times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown between the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side struck twice late to seize a shock advantage. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial leveler in the final moments to force the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving crucial attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all converted successfully for PSG to seal a convincing penalty win.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the last 13 seasons.
